Short Description
The Arlington Community Museum is dedicated to preserving and sharing the rich history and culture of the Arlington area. Open every Saturday and Sunday from 1 to 4 PM between Memorial Day weekend and Labor Day, the museum features rotating exhibits, monthly local artist showcases, and special events for visitors of all ages.
Description

The Arlington Community Museum is a vibrant center for local history, learning, and the arts, housed in the beautifully preserved Arlington Masonic Temple—a building designed by renowned South Dakota architect George Issenhuth and listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Each summer, the museum invites visitors to explore the stories, artifacts, and artistry that make Arlington unique.

Open seasonally from Memorial Day through Labor Day, the museum showcases rotating exhibits, with a special focus on featuring a local artist each month. The 2025 season marks the third year of this artist spotlight series:
• June: Artwork by Linda Alyward
• July: Custom guitars and mandolins by luthier Larry Groon
• August: Art and photography by Joan Williams

Throughout the summer, the museum also hosts open houses to celebrate the featured artists (dates to be announced). The permanent collection includes artifacts and stories that reflect the rich legacy of Arlington’s people, families, and community milestones.

The mission of the Arlington Community Museum is “to preserve the history of the Arlington Community with items and stories. The Society shall operate the Museum as an educational resource for the public, a repository for its collections, and a place to present exhibits and educational programs.”

The museum is always open to donations of artifacts, family histories, and community stories. Private visits outside of scheduled hours can often be accommodated by appointment.
